Men's Pro Finals - heat 1

After a fairly long break, Dave Duncan kicked off the first heat of the Men's Pro finals. Because there were so many skaters and the points were so close, they had to split the finals into two groups. The first group was composed of Jimmy "The Greek" Marcus, Steve Reeves, Johnny Turgeson, Donovan Rice, and Josh "Skreech" Sandoval. This heat was full on chaos! I think because many of the guys are really good friends, they just took the opportunity to have a fun aggro, snake session. At times, there were as many as three skaters at once in the bowl. Jimmy the Greek seemed a bit sketched out by it all at first....like "what the hell is up with these guys?"...but it didn't take him long to, as he said, elbow his way in and start dominating the heat. Lots of big tricks and insane moments made this heat very exciting.

Men's Pro Finals - heat 2

Shortly after darkness fell around 7:30pm, the second heat of the Men's Pro finals got under way. To no one's surprise, the final finals group was Benji Galloway, Tim Johnson, Morgan Burgess, Sergie Ventura, and Joe "Joe-hio" Marrara. This finals heat was insane. Where the first heat was more aggro and chaotic, this heat was full of big tricks and board control at it's best. Easily the best skating of the day came down to this time as it should be. It seemed to be a battle between Galloway and Johnson of who could go the biggest and who could pull out the gnarliest tricks from their bag. Sadly, some of the sickest stuff they tried, they just could not land. For instance, Galloway tried a 360 flip backside air and came sooooo close. Tim Johnson tried one better with a 360 flip roll-in into the deep! Both came up just short. And then of course, there were the chants for Sergie. Everyone was taking bets as to whether Sergie would try a 540 in our bowl. He was known for doing so in recent bowl contests. He never tried the 540, but he did try to land an insanely huge Christ air that he never quite could get back under him. Not to be out done, Joe-hio was trying some big tricks but seemed to be just playing around and having fun just skating. He had a big smile on his face the whole time. And last but not least, little ripper Morgan Burgess kept up his marathon runs full of new school and old school trickery. He would as easily do a long crail slide revert and then follow that up in the same run with a Miller Flip. Keep an eye on this kid! With all the excitement and insanity, it seemed like as soon as it started, the finals were over. It was close to 8:30pm when they finally wrapped up. Now, that's some skating!
