Skate It or Hang It?! The Evolution of Skateboard Art

Intro    Saturday 1  2  3 )

Photographic evidence and such...

For me, the best part of the show was finally meeting a lot of the collectors and artists in person that I have talked to over the past many years just through emails, phone calls, forum posts, etc. I got to meet some of the OG Skull & Bones skateboard forum members, Wavelord and Strohsbro (both of which have contributed LOTS to AOS over the years). I also finally met legendary collector, Nick Halkias (TheSkateboardMuseum.com). It was great talking with Nick not only about collecting, skating, etc. ,but also because he is from Florida and we have so many friends in common.

Pretty much as soon as we walked in, we ran right into Lance Mountain and Steve Olson. I reminded Lance that we had met before when he came to our Pat Wachter contest in 2007. I know he travels the world and meets thousands of people each year, so I figured he might need a friendly reminder of how we met. (haha) We talked a little, but honestly, he was pretty busy going from person to person that wanted some time with him. It was just cool to see him again and talk for a few minutes. Through the course of our time there, I got other chances to chit chat with him here and there. He, Cliver and I even got some photos together.

Like I said, as we came in, we ran into Mountain and Olson right away. Olson and our friend (a regional skate legend, 51 years old and still ripping), Mark "Shreddings" Eddings (aka "The Ageing Bull") hit it right off. Those two were just locked in conversation. Talking old times, people they knew, old skaters, etc. Several times, I would walk around and catch those two off somewhere else cutting up and talking BS about whatever. It was funny. Now as for meeting Olson, well.....Olson is....Olson! (haha) He is exactly what I had heard and what I imagined...which is good. He is a character for sure! (and I mean that in the best of ways!!!) If you get caught in a conversation with Mountain and Olson at the same time, you will be laughing at some point and a lot!
